State of the Art Dental Technology

River Valley Dental is proud to provide state of the art technology services to make your dental experience as convenient and comfortable as possible. More precise, less invasive tools and methodologies also result in superior quality cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

Some of the cutting edge technologies you may encounter at River Valley Dental include:

CAD CAM Digital Dentistry
Laser Dentistry
Digital Radiography (X-Rays)
Intraoral Camera and Digital Photography
Velscope Cancer Detection Technology
3-Dimensional CT Scan – Head and Neck

CAD CAM Digital Dentistry

River Valley Dental utilizes CAD CAM digital imagery by Cadent to make virtual impressions of your teeth – eliminating the need for those cumbersome and messy trays filled with the putty-like material that had to be held in the mouth until the impression material set. Digital imagery provides a much more relaxed, comfortable, time saving experience for you, the patient. Just as importantly, it produces more precise and accurate measurements resulting in better fitting crowns and bridges.

How does it work?

By using 100,000 points of laser light to capture all the surfaces and contours of your teeth and gums in amazing detail, CAD CAM digital imagery creates a 3D computer rendered optical scan. You will enjoy seeing the scans for yourself when your digital impression is projected for you in the treatment room.

The digital file is then transmitted to the Cadent lab where a precise model is milled. Next, another lab of highly skilled technicians creates your crown or bridge, fitting it perfectly to the model. Finally, Dr. Tri or Dr. Hulse adds his expert finishing touches, bonds the restoration to the surface of the old tooth, and sends you home with a beautiful and fully functional restoration.

Laser Dentistry

Laser technology is a family of laser instruments designed to perform a variety of dental tasks. It is used at River Valley Dental to:

  • perform surgeries on gum tissue
  • perform cosmetic procedures
  • treat cold sores.
  • enhance tooth bleaching

Laser technology is efficient, noise-free, and painless…perfect for everyone, especially kids.

Digital Radiography (X-Rays)

Radiography, or X-ray technology, is necessary for the early detection of disease. Finding and treating dental problems at an early stage saves time, money and unnecessary discomfort.

Today, X-rays, like all modern photography, have gone digital. Instead of film a sensor is placed in the mouth to capture images of your teeth and their root system. Within seconds the images are available on a computer screen where they can be easily enhanced and enlarged for more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

There is more good news: digital radiography reduces radiation exposure by 80% - keeping your family safer. It is also environmentally friendly.

Intraoral Camera and Digital Photography

With an intraoral camera you can finally see what Dr. Tri or Dr. Hulse see, a true-to-life view of the inside of your mouth. The camera is about the size of a dental mirror. It has a very bright light and a tiny camera installed on it. When the camera is placed in or near your mouth it reveals such conditions as disease, cracked or fractured teeth, broken fillings, severe wear of the teeth, and soft tissue irritations or conditions – giving you the opportunity to see and better understand the condition of your mouth and the treatment options needed.

Digital photography allows the doctors to communicate more effectively and immediately via e-mail with the lab technicians creating your restorations. This plays a critical role in obtaining that perfect restoration that makes River Valley Dental unique. Finally, digital photography allows our doctors, and our team to communicate more efficiently with various dental specialists. For instance, it is used to track and monitor suspicious lesions and email images to the proper specialist when further evaluation is warranted.

Velscope Cancer Detection Technology

Oral Cancer is a devastating, even deadly, cancer that can go undetected until it has progressed to later stages. Early detection is critical. River Valley Dental uses Velscope, the most powerful, state of the art tool available for detecting oral soft tissue abnormalities. With its distinctive blue spectrum light, Velscope can see a variety of oral abnormalities - often before they are visible to the unassisted eye. Because Velscope aides with early detection and diagnosis, oral cancer can be caught before it has time to spread, allowing for less invasive and more effective forms of treatment and potentially saving lives.

Oral cancer can also be extremely disfiguring for patients since removal of the cancerous area is a necessary treatment for this disease. That is why Dr. Tri and Dr. Hulse feel it is important to see their patients regularly for thorough oral cancer screenings, particularly if they are in the high risk groups – including those who use tobacco, abuse alcohol, or have a family history of this type of cancer. This is particularly important because most physicians do not routinely check patients for oral cancer. At River Valley Dental we feel all patients benefit from this screening annually because twenty five percent of all oral cancer victims are non-smokers, and have no other lifestyle risk factors.

Oral Cancer Statistics

  • Twenty five percent of the victims are non-smokers, non-drinkers and have no other lifestyle risk factors or family history
  • In the US, one person dies every hour from oral cancer
  • Research links the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) with cancers of the back of the tongue, and upper throat
  • Slightly more than half of oral cancer patients survive five years
  • Oral cancer is twice as prevalent in men as it is in women

At River Valley Dental we set high standards for the care of our patients.
Use of the Velscope as part of our oral health evaluation allows us to evaluate and monitor the oral tissues for any changes or abnormalities to keep you healthy for life. Please contact our office with any questions you may have about this service.

3-Dimensional CT Scan – Head and Neck

River Valley Dental uses 3-Dimensional CT Scans of the head and neck to place dental implants with precision, and to determine predictable bone regeneration while performing reconstructive surgery. With this cutting edge technology, the doctors at River Valley Dental can ensure improved results for your dental implants.
